UK to ban social media for kids under 16, may impose overnight curfews

This reminds me of how China imposed youth bans on excessive gaming. It’s a response to growing alienation and malaise among young people that doesn’t really address the root causes of them having to grow up in a materially worse and lonely world. I agree we need to reign in tech companies that actively gamify their apps to make them more addictive, but even more importantly we have to give young people something to actually do. Doom scrolling was a replacement after we destroyed social venues for people to come together, and I’m not seeing the UK or anybody else trying to give any alternative.
