That’s Mozilla VPN, not Firefox VPN .
Mozilla VPN = paid, Mullvad as provider, system-scoped
Firefox VPN = free (50GB limit), Fastly as provider, browser-scoped
As they’re using Mullvad VPN, I’d imagine it’s exactly the equally named feature provided by Mullvad. This also means, all is in control by Mullvad, and there is no split between Mozilla and Mullvad servers.

Out of interest: What incentives does Google have in separating payment from VPN connection data? Their business model is aggregating/collecting data about customers.
