It might not affect throughput, but it absolutely affects latency. So, for things like downloading large files, proximity of server matters less since only the throughput matters in that case, but If you are playing multiplayer games, browsing web, you will feel the lower responsiveness if you choose server that is farther away. I’m not sure about whether mullvad feature exist for auto connecting closest server.
