Would I recommend paying for a privacy-respecting service when it suits your threat model and does what you want it to do? Yes. But does that depend on your financial situation? Of course, obviously. Is it a “good thing” to have to pay for that? No.. Privacy is a human right.

Keep in mind that this forum may be biased. The Privacy Guides community was built from internet users recommending others privacy-respecting tools and services, both free and paid, so of course there’s gonna be a lot of people here who says to buy.
