"textContent": "I think majority of the folks in the privacy community will go towards iPhone. If Google ties everything down to Play services and it becomes unbearable for GrapheneOS team to give their own privacy focused patches.\n\nIf you read the article linked by lukas. They silently started killing AOSP.\n\nThey could have made it open with AOSP apps and AOSP implementation of services without depending on Google Play services. Even for Play Integrity, it could be done via hardware attestation.\n\nThen the only job required of Google Play services would be to act as layer for its own backup system to Drive, Google Play store & Apps that come with Subscription or paid ones, Emergency services, Find My Device network, Account sync. That’s it.\n\nBut no, They went & said “I can do it but I won’t”. Since, google is built on an empire of data collection & selling market. They wanna control it and squeeze it all they could.\n\nThe thing with Apple is, they are being perceived as a lesser evil compared to Google. Their main selling point is Hardware, Software goes secondary. That doesn’t mean they are a saint. There are wrongs there too.\n\nBut if you want a blissful, no-nonsense & somewhat private out of the box device it would be iPhone. That’s the hard truth. We need to see how Apple evolves after John Ternus and see if he turns around back to steve jobs style of work.\n\nLinux phones penetrating the market would take years. If any of you, are considering upgrading your phone or switch to iPhone prolong it till they bring removable batteries & WWDC 27 & 28 as far as you can.",
