Is Surf the future RSS Reader to rule them all?
So I finally tried Surf, and IMHO, it sucks!
I love the idea of an app that can let you manage multiple social media feeds in one place. However, I do not see the point of supporting RSS if you’re not going to fully support it.
Surf does not let you read articles from RSS feeds. It only presents you with a snippet of it. If you click on the article to read it you will be directed to the original website where it was published. That is not how an RSS reader is supposed to work. I should be able to read the whole article within the app.
Everyone who said they don’t like the idea of mixing their social media feeds with their RSS feed IMO probably right, but I have yet to see an app that actually lets you do this.
I was primarily drawn to Surf because I am still in search of free cross-platform RSS reader with a great UI and UI. Surf has beautiful UI and I had hopes that it could be it, but it’s not.

Slightly different projects I have seen recently are https://flareapp.moe/ and https://fread.xyz/.
Thank you for introducing to me Flare and Fread! I downloaded both, but I currently prefer Flare because it supports Twitter and more platforms like Windows and macOS. I love it! I have not tried adding RSS feeds to Flare yet, though I wouldn’t be surprised if it integrates them like Surf.
Regardless of how it integrates them, I don’t think I want my RSS feed and social media feeds in the same place either.
Surf is still in Beta, so I hope they will eventually fully integrate RSS. If they do it well, I could myself using it exclusively for that with no social media feeds. There’s no reason for me to use Surf for social media because Flare is better IMHO. It’s also FOSS. The question that remains is if I can protect my privacy with Flare.
