Normie messaging app versus email

Can anyone comment about the effectiveness of using Line over a VPN or Tor? I wonder how likely the Line app harvests and sends client IP addresses via the application layer.

What are effective user behavioral harm reduction measures users can take while using Line or any other normie instant messaging app? For instance, if I start using Line I imagine I could do this.

• Give necessary permissions to the app only while in use and revoke them when closing.
• Open the Line app only at specific locations and specific times.
• Compose messages outside the app and paste into the message text box, and copy all received messages out and view them in another app.
