"textContent": "PurpleDime:\n\n> I’m not necessarily against this law, but you could say the same thing about privacy. Kids today have less privacy than their parents and grandparents had at the same age. One could argue that they’re not missing anything. But you could also argue that they are.\n\nYour post is balanced - and appreciated. I do understand how it could be seen this way, but I still do not understand why there is the uproar with this.\n\nMany years ago, prior to the 1960s and before building regulations were _properly_ put in place, people could build their houses with whatever they wanted (within reason and within the confines an Act from the 1800s relating to public safety).\n\nThis ‘privilege’ was taken away. No more questionable and hazardous building structures.\n\nFast forward to the 1980s when ‘Asbestos’ was a thing, several pieces and amendments to legislation ensued right up until the millennium when the import/export/use of was ‘banned’. People were building houses, outhouses and other structures out of asbestos for many reasons. Cost. Durability. Fire resistant. Insulated. It was the material of choice for many.\n\nThis ‘privilege’ was taken away. No more hazardous material.\n\nSo: if we renege on the ban of smoking for those born 2008+, should we bin the asbestos ban and bring back houses sitting on wooden slats and a couple of rusty nails so that future generations and ‘enjoy’ that ‘privilege’?",
