Proton Meet Isn't What They Told You It Was

Interesting article. If “Proton AG” does that with one of its products, it affects its entire ecosystem (including VPNs) because its consistency breaks down on its own and can’t be sustained. The author says the following in his article: marketing “trust us, we’re Swiss” → is spot on.

What does this show people who are strict (myself included)? Answer: low trust in “Proton AG.”

The “Meet” privacy policy states the following:

Data security: Proton Meet relies on infrastructure providers LiveKit Cloud to deliver real-time video conferencing. LiveKit Cloud handles the transmission and routing of data, but all meeting content, including audio, video, screen sharing, and chat messages, is end-to-end encrypted on the client side using Messaging Layer Security (MLS) before it leaves your device. As a consequence, the infrastructure only processes encrypted data and cannot access any meaningful user information.

If anyone uses the product, they must use a VPN to protect their privacy. Even so, it remains unclear to what extent Meet’s encryption can withstand targeted attacks aimed at intercepting actual traffic without arousing suspicion.

Only time will tell.
