A Cryptography Engineer’s Perspective on Quantum Computing Timelines

AFAIK, only asymmetric encryption is severely affected by quantum computing(which is based on prime factorization). Symmetric encryption algorithms such as AES(Rijndael), Serpent, ChaCha, etc are already quantum secure. The post quantum cryptography standard adopted by NIST also involves only replacing the asymmetric encryption algorithms.
