Looking for Advice on Linux Security and Privacy? Feel Free to Ask

This is super kind of you. Thank you very much. I’d like input on this: A family member with an out of date Macbook had expressed interest in trying out Linux, particularly to extent its longevity. If they are a little curious but not overly techy, what could be a good distro and DE to provide them a somewhat smooth transition or similar experience to MacOS? Fedora Workstation (I.e. with Gnome)?
