A fire at a Loop restaurant sent smoke through the roof of a high-rise building
on Tuesday morning, fire officials said.

Firefighters responded to the high-rise building 17 N. Wabash Ave., after smoke was billowing from its roof, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

The fire started in a restaurant on a lower floor and was extinguished without anyone being hurt, the fire department said.

Firefighters were working on ventilation and checking a ventilation shaft.

The department did not authorize an evacuation, though some occupants may have left on their own.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
