15 shot overnight in Chicago, including several teens
Nearly half of the victims shot overnight in Chicago were children and teenagers, including an 18-year-old who died from his injuries.
Chicago Police have reported at least 15 people were shot from around 9:30 p.m. Saturday to just after 5 a.m. Sunday. Seven of the people shot were between 12 and 19 years old.
The violence hit nearly every side of the city, including a shooting that left a woman critically wounded in the Lincoln Park neighborhood.
The 18-year-old man was fatally shot in the head in the Grand Crossing neighborhood. Officers found him around 1:30 a.m. Sunday in the 7700 block of South Rhodes Avenue. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No one has been arrested, police said.
Earlier Saturday night, four kids and teens were shot in the Grand Boulevard neighborhood. The four boys were in the 4500 block of South Prairie Avenue when someone opened fire on them at around 9:30 p.m., according to police.
All four boys are in stable condition: A 12-year-old and a 13-year-old both shot in the leg, a 13-year-old shot in the foot and a 14-year-old grazed in the back. Three were taken to Comer Children's Hospital, and the 13-year-old shot in the leg was taken to Stroger Hospital. No one has been arrested, police said.
The other shootings, according to police:
- A 21-year-old man was dropped off at Community First Medical Center suffering from a gunshot to the foot. He was in a car around 11 p.m. Saturday in the 2100 block of North Central Avenue in Belmont Craigin when he was shot. He is in fair condition.
- An 18-year-old woman, a 19-year-old woman and an adult man were shot just after midnight in Grand Boulevard. All three were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center. The 18-year-old woman, shot in the abdomen, is in critical condition, while the other two are stable.
- A 27-year-old man was shot around 3 a.m. Sunday in Chatham in the 7900 block of South Langley Avenue. He went to Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center where he is stable.
- A 39-year-old woman was shot while standing outside in Lincoln Park just before 4 a.m. in the 600 block of West Belden Avenue. She took herself to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where she was in critical condition.
- Two people were shot around 4:15 a.m. in North Lawndale in the 1100 block of South Mozart Street. The victims were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital: a 47-year-old man who was in critical condition after he was shot in both legs, and a 46-year-old woman was in stable condition after being shot in the leg.
- A 26-year-old man was shot in the Near South Side just after 5:20 a.m. He was in the 2200 block of South State Street when a dark sedan pulled up and someone inside shot him in the leg. He was taken to Insight Hospital in stable condition.
- A 32-year-old man went to Mount Sinai suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He would not tell officers when or where he was shot. He is in critical condition.
