Boy, 13, dies days after South Shore shooting

A 13-year-old boy who was wounded in a shooting last week in South Shore died Thursday, according to Chicago police.

Deantwan McKeever, 13, was found in a gangway on May 21 in the 8200 block of South Coles Avenue around 2:50 p.m., police said.

Deantwan had been shot in the head and was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition. He was pronounced dead Thursday, the Cook County medical examiner's office said.

The day of the shooting, multiple witnesses heard two shots and saw surveillance footage of two males running past Deantwan's house around the time of the shooting, police said. A shell casing was found in a gangway near where the boy was found, according to a police report obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times.

A car theft was happening around the same time and in the same area of the shooting, according to police reports.

No arrests have been made.
