An apparent fire at the Belmont CTA station halted rail service for nearly two hours on the North Side on Tuesday evening.
Firefighters responded to a call at 7:12 p.m. about a fire on the northbound Brown Line tracks at the Belmont station, according to a Chicago Fire Department official. All passengers were cleared off the train and no injuries were reported; the cause of the fire remains under investigation, the fire official said.
Trains were stopped between Howard and Fullerton on the Red and Purple lines, as well as Kimball and Fullerton on the Brown Line, a CTA spokesperson said. Service was restored around 9 p.m.
