Threat called in to West Chicago Community high, prompting lockdown, school says
Someone called in a threat to West Chicago high school Tuesday morning, prompting a large police presence and a lockdown of the school on its graduation eve, said the school and police.
Officers responded to an "incident" in the area of West Chicago Community High School, 326 Joliet St., police posted to X.
"There will be a large police presence until the incident has been resolved. Please avoid the area so we can assess the situation," the post said.
"Everybody is ok right now," said a school spokesperson who added police were "making sure" before the students, who were placed on lockdown, would be released.
A police spokesperson, who said no one was hurt, declined to elaborate on the situation and a spokesperson for the fire department said they were not called there.
According to the school's website, a graduation was scheduled for 7 p.m. .
