  "textContent": "<p>A shootout between a gunman and two Chicago police officers left the gunman seriously hurt Monday night in the South Chicago neighborhood. </p><p>Around 10:35 p.m., officers responded to a person with a gun call in the 8200 block of S. South Shore Drive and stopped a man matching a description in the 3100 block of East 83rd Street, police said. </p><p>Officers approached the man, attempted to de-escalate, and provided direction for him to keep his hands visible but an exchange of gunfire erupted between the man and two officers who fired their weapons, police said. </p><p>The man was shot in the body and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he was in serious condition, authorities said. </p><p>Both officers were taken to area hospitals for observation, police said. </p><p>A gun was was recovered on the scene.</p><p>The Civilian Office of Police Accountability was investigating the shooting. The officers involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for at least 30 days. </p>",
