  "textContent": "<p>A man searched “how to kill someone with a hammer?” on Google before bludgeoning his transgender on-again-off-again girlfriend to death earlier this month in Garfield Park, according to Cook County prosecutors.</p><p>Deandre Bell, 24, also searched for, “if a person gets hit in the head with a hammer while sleeping what happens,\" <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https://chicago.suntimes.com/crime/2026/04/09/man-slain-in-garfield-park-neighborhood-apartment\" target=\"_blank\" >before striking the head of Davonta Curtis</a>, 31, with a hammer in her apartment, according to a proffer read in court Saturday by prosecutors.</p><p>Bell allegedly sped away from the crime scene in Curtis' car in the early morning of April 6, prosecutors said.</p><p>Two days later, Curtis’ sister found the woman dead in her apartment, partially covered by a sheet and near a large pool of blood, prosecutors said. Curtis’ blue Hyundai and car keys were also missing, prosecutors said. </p><p>Later that day, police found Bell driving in the car alone, prosecutors said. In custody, Bell admitted to striking Curtis, who was a sex worker, with a hammer until she stopped moving, prosecutors said. </p><p>The defendant also allegedly admitted to stealing the victim’s keys, phone and money. He also identified himself in video showing a man leaving Curtis’ apartment, prosecutors said.</p><p>Bell’s blood was found on a screwdriver and hammer in the defendant’s backpack, prosecutor said.</p><p>Prosecutors did not offer a motive for the killing in the proffer.</p><p>A judge ordered Bell held pending trial.</p>",
