"textContent": "<p>Two men were charged with the murder of a businessman who was involved in a United Center development project near the arena on the Near West Side. </p><p>Nassie Mason and Erving Harris, both of Chicago, were charged with first degree murder and possessing a weapon while being a felon in the death of 67-year-old Jerry Lewis, Chicago police said. Harris was also wanted on a warrant.</p><p>Mason, 28, and Harris, 31, allegedly approached Lewis as he walked outside his office just blocks from the arena in an <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https://chicago.suntimes.com/crime/2026/03/24/man-67-gunned-down-near-united-center-on-near-west-side\" target=\"_blank\" >apparent ambush attack</a>, according to officials and his family.</p><p>Lewis, 67, of Matteson, was shot in the head around 12:50 p.m. Tuesday outside of the nonprofit’s office at 2127 W. Madison St., according to Chicago police. He was rushed to Stroger Hospital and pronounced dead.</p><p>After the shooting, police officers detained Mason and Harris as they allegedly walked away from the building’s front entrance, according to a police report. Both men have felony records and have spent time in prison.</p><p>The suspects, both of whom are from Chicago's West Side, were scheduled to appear in court Friday for a detention hearing. </p><p>Lewis was closely involved in the 1901 Project, a $7 billion development led by the United Center’s owners — the Wirtz and Reinsdorf families. The project aims to turn 55 acres surrounding the stadium into a full-fledged entertainment district.</p><p>“My father was a great man, and his game plan was that he wanted change,” Zach Lewis told the Sun-Times Wednesday. </p>",
