Girl, 15, killed while riding scooter in South Shore hit-and-run

A 15-year-old girl riding a scooter was killed when she was hit by a vehicle which fled the scene in South Shore Saturday night, police said.

Violet Harris, 15, was found lying unresponsive in the street around 8:30 p.m. in the 2800 block of East 77th Street, according to Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner's Office.

Harris was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 8:56 p.m., according to the medical examiner's office.

The initial investigation indicates Harris was riding a motorized scooter when she was hit by a car that fled the scene, police said.

No one is in custody and detectives are investigating.
