  "textContent": "<p>A Chicago woman accused of killing her abusive boyfriend left court in tears Tuesday after prosecutors refused to drop the charges and instead offered a plea deal that would require her to serve probation.</p><p>Keshia Golden was <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https://chicago.suntimes.com/crime/2022/10/25/23423307/2m-bail-woman-accused-fatally-stabbing-boyfriend-argument-over-microwave-use\" target=\"_blank\" >charged with first-degree murder</a> in the 2022 stabbing of Calvin Sidney. Golden’s lawyers have argued that she stabbed Sidney in the leg when he attacked her after their baby shower.</p><p>During Tuesday’s hearing, Cook County prosecutors offered Golden a deal to plead to lesser charges of second-degree murder in exchange for two years of probation — a conviction her lawyers said would follow her for life.</p><p>The plea deal remains on the table, but <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https://chicago.suntimes.com/crime/2022/11/4/23441087/pregnant-woman-murder-charge-community-group-provides-bond-keshia-golden\" target=\"_blank\" >Golden’s lawyers and supporters</a> continue to call on Cook County State’s Attorney Eileen O’Neill Burke to dismiss the case before it goes to trial. </p><p>“We expect State's Attorney [O’Neill] Burke to do the right thing here,” said Julie Koehler, one of Golden’s public defenders. “She has stated numerous times that she helps victims of domestic violence. … Well, here's one. Here's a victim of domestic violence that she needs to help.”</p><p>The state’s attorney’s office said the case remains pending and “continues through the judicial process.”</p><p>On Oct. 22, 2022, Golden and Sidney were hosting the shower for their first child together. After the party, Sidney slammed Golden into a kitchen counter and a fridge, according to her lawyers. A relative tried to separate them, but Sidney wouldn’t let go, so <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https://chicago.suntimes.com/crime/2022/10/30/23429205/calvin-sydney-dead-pregnant-woman-charged-murder-father-keshia-golden-domestic-violence\" target=\"_blank\" >Golden grabbed a knife and stabbed him</a> in his leg, her lawyers said.</p><p>He was hit in his femoral artery and later died at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to officials.</p><p>Golden’s attorneys have argued she was acting in self-defense against a man who had a documented history of domestic violence.</p><p>Golden has been out of jail while awaiting trial, thanks to her team of lawyers and advocates. She was able to <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https://chicago.suntimes.com/crime/2026/02/24/chicago-crime-keshia-golden-domestic-violence-abuse-murder\" target=\"_blank\" >give birth and raise her daughter</a>, Ky’liyah.</p><p>“She has done everything over the past three years that they have asked,” Koehler said of her client. “What more do they want from this woman?
