  "textContent": "Wilbur Dyre Hart III, professor emeritus of philosophy at the University of Illinois, Chicago, has died. Professor Hart, known to all as Bill, worked in philosophical logic, philosophy of mathematics, metaphysics, philosophy of mind, and epistemology. He is the author of The Engines of the Soul (Cambridge, 1988) and The Evolution of Logic (Cambridge, 2010), along with many articles. He joined the Department of Philosophy at the University of Illinois, Chicago (UIC) in 1993, eventually becoming chair, and retiring in 2011. He moved to Chicago from University College London, where he was a professor for 17 years. Prior to that, he taught at the University of Michigan. He earned his PhD and Bachelor’s degree from Harvard University. He died on March 5, 2026, from cancer and kidney disease. A memorial notice is posted on the UIC Philosophy homepage.\n\nThe post W.D.
