"textContent": "What if you could live in a world populated by a cadre of wicked-smart-beautiful women and one man who is Stanley Tucci? Would that be fabulous? Yes. And you can.\n\n“The Devil Wears Prada 2” is a swirl of beauty, art, fashion, betrayal and badassery—a full-blown escape to fantastical New York City and Milan, Italy. The movie’s a sequel made some 20 years after its predecessor, and it stands alone.\n\nWhat a relief this “Devil” brings. Too many of the trailers for movies coming out this summer tease various versions of the apocalypse (as in “Disclosure Day” and “Dune Part Three”). So when Queen Meryl Streep and Siren Anne Hathaway sashay back onto the big screen together, I am delighted to be swept up into their milieu. Hathaway, Streep and Tucci, along with Emily Blunt, reprise the roles they played in 2006’s hit film.\n\nThat’s not to say this new story begins happily. The sad and realistic event at the start of “Devil 2” has Andy Sachs (Hathaway) winning an investigative journalism prize moments before she and her colleagues receive text messages informing them that they are being downsized.\n\nWhat will our heroine do? She’ll tap into her resilience. Again. And we’re off on a gloriously clothed ride on Runway, the magazine run by Miranda Priestly (Streep).\n\nMagazine? What is that, you ask? Well, “Devil 2” is about the swan songs of glossy fashion magazines—until it’s not. Miranda, with her antarctic cool and shrewdness about human nature, works with Andy to add value to Runway. Not that anything goes smoothly. But is it ever fun to watch how the women use their skills to reshape the narrative.\n\nEnter another character who helps bring on an outcome we weren’t expecting. Sasha Barnes, a philanthropist and a billionaire, is played by the glowing Lucy Liu.\n\nLet us praise the two female screenwriters: Aline Brosh McKenna and Lauren Weisberger. They wrote the first “Devil Wears Prada” movie; Weisberger wrote the 2003 novel that inspired it all. Among the glittering jewels they drop into “Devil 2’s” proceedings are appearances by a certain New Orleans musician and, in Milan, an Italian American diva who rocks the house.\n\nAs for the men in the story, we have an assortment. Stanley Tucci is Nigel, Miranda’s second-in-command, and he is flawless. Kenneth Branagh, apparently enjoying a break from Shakespeare, plays Miranda’s husband, Stuart. He knows how to cede the limelight.\n\nOther notable men making brief but key appearances include Jesus, the 12 apostles and Leonardo da Vinci.\n\nThen there is the character Benji Barnes (Justin Theroux). He’s plain silly. Theroux seems to be having a good time portraying a cartoonish wealthy divorcé. His cat-eyed love interest Emily (Blunt, back from the 2006 “Devil”) also plays her part to the hilt. She’s even grown into a more sympathetic character by the time the credits roll.\n\nSpeaking of credits, can I just say what a joy it is to hear Madonna’s “Vogue” again as Miranda and her entourage are arriving in Milan?\n\nIn the world of “Devil 2,” our people go through changes. Relationships are transformed. Journalism is not dead. The music is as delicious as it was in the first film. The women get their due—and that is a reason to get yourself to the movie theater.",
