My 2026 bucket list (revised)
Hi, I'm amy. I've been wanting to write something for my blog for quite a while, but could not gather enough courage and motivation to dust off my previous sites that I littered all over the internet. But that will change this year, right now. So, to inaugurate this new space of mine, I wanted to share a set of goals that I've given myself this year, alongside a reason why I decided to undertake them.
Before I begin, I want to make clear that this is a revised version of my bucket list article I released in January. My blog is moving to offprint and because there isn't a clear migration path for articles on leaflet, I decided to revise these posts and republish them so that they align with my current writing style. For posterity, you can read the original here:
- Limit my social media consumption I use social media a lot, mainly to keep myself informed of any of my friends' shenanigans. However, the feeds that I've curated tend to give me a lot of negative and "toxic" posts, even though I've attempted to avoid this exact same issue by removing what I thought were the cause. So, I gave up, opting to ignore those posts as much as I possibly can. However, this was not healthy and I ended up being frustrated at non-issues, regardless of whether they were actually worth my time. My plan is to limit from where and when I consume information, mainly though RSS feeds and by using time limits on my devices. Hopefully, this can improve my mental health to some extent.
- Get a job I think this one can explain itself no problem. However, I feel the need to explain it anyway. See, I do technically work for someone already. It's a part time job, but the pay is horrible and I end up mentally and physically exhausted at the end of the shift. And as you can probably assume, that's no good. Which is why I set out to find a job, preferably as a software engineer, to have a well-needed change of scenery and improve my opportunities of getting better jobs, and hopefully move in with my loved ones.
- Socialize more with my loved ones This might sound silly at first, but yes! I need to talk more with them!! Let me explain. I am polyamorous and am in a relationship with 3 people, but I am also a really bad conversation starter and find it quite hard to continue conversations for prolonged periods of time, which is quite perplexing for someone like me. So, to try and give back to those who love me dearest, I need to talk more with them, get to know them better.
- Build (and finish) more open software! I've had a tendency of building software that I never finish, either due to a lack of motivation/interest, or due to scope creep. But I think it's about time I complete some of the software I started last year, the latest example of this being CodeHub, which is a view-only, self-hostable GitHub client written in Go. This also includes contributing to more open source projects, such as Stoat, which I recently have been on a roll with the PRs.
And that's about it, really! Personally, I think that there is no point in making your "new year's resolutions" list extremely long, specially if you know that you are probably not going to meet all of the goals you set. So having a narrower list of things can help you focus on what matters most, making the list more manageable and realistic. Do expect more of these posts in the coming months, maybe with more capitalized words (editor's note: there are more capitalized words, you are welcome ;3). I do not have anything specific in mind for this blog, other than my own thoughts about niche topics that I enjoy, so don't expect me to stick with a theme for the entirety of the blog. Thanks for reading and have a great day!
- Amelia
