It was five minutes into the drive back to the Tower that something inside Steve’s mind clicked.

“Wait a minute,” Steve said out loud.

Natasha glanced at him. “What?”

“Peter can kick a guy across the room, but he can’t throw Tony off him?” Steve asked, mentally replaying the way Tony had playfully manhandled Peter.

Natasha shrugged. “He could.”

Steve furrowed his brows. “But he didn’t.”

“Why would he have?” Natasha raised a brow at Steve.

Steve didn’t know how to answer that.

(Or: 3 times Tony was the exception for Peter +1 time he was STILL the exception from Steve’s perspective)
