Though most teenagers weren’t vigilantes either. In any event, his wonderings had nothing to do with his extracurriculars. It was only tangentially related, in the way he seemed to be able to detonate his entire life in seconds, in an exorbitantly bright and colorful manner.\n\nThe thing was, an atomic bomb didn’t start with the explosion, although everyone always focused on that bit. Humans always did have a fascination with things that killed them, and from a humanitarian perspective, the damage was what was important. But coming from a more chemical perspective, the explosion was almost incidental.\n\nThe real danger was in the preparation, in the way two things that were stable on their own could be forced together under exactly the right — or wrong — conditions. Not inherently volatile, nor doomed from the start, but close enough and aligned until a reaction became inevitable.\n\n–-\n\nOR: Peter nearly dies, goes into a coma, wakes up, and then gets himself into a hostage situation, all while Tony is acting strangely distant.
