Mesoscale Discussion 0655
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0437 PM CDT Wed May 06 2026
Areas affected...portions of central/southern Alabama
Concerning...Tornado Watch 187...
Valid 062137Z - 062330Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 187 continues.
SUMMARY...Supercells with risk for all hazards to continue across
Alabama this evening.
DISCUSSION...A supercell continues to mature across south-central
Alabama near Montgomery, AL this afternoon, with signs of
strengthening rotation. Additional development is ongoing across
western Alabama and further north near the cold front in northern
Alabama.
The environment across Alabama remains favorable for supercells
capable of all hazards, including strong tornadoes. Through the
evening, 700-850 mb flow will increase enlarging low-level
hodographs and promoting favorable conditions for tornadoes
particularly across south-central Alabama. As the front moves south
and storms cluster, tendency to grow upscale will support an
increasing damaging wind threat.
