"textContent": "Residents across Cannock Chase will begin receiving their weekly food waste collections from next week (week commencing 27 April 2026), as part of a new government initiative to increase food waste recycling.\n\nHouseholds should by now have already received two new food waste containers: a 23-litre external kerbside caddy, containing a small seven-litre kitchen caddy for use indoors, and a roll of liners. These were delivered with full instructions explaining how the new service will work.\n\nFood waste currently accounts for around onethird of all household rubbish, with the average home throwing away approximately £800 worth of edible food every year. Food which is currently sent for incineration. This national programme aims to boost the amount of food waste that households recycle. Under the government’s Simpler Recycling initiative, all councils are required to introduce a separate, weekly kerbside food waste collection service by April 2026.\n\n## Local news is broken. The food waste will be collected in specialist wagons and once collected it will be transported to a local ‘anaerobic digestion’ plant to be converted into energy and fertiliser.\n\n> Joss Presland, Head of Operations said: “Weekly food waste collections are being\n> introduced across Cannock Chase as part of a national government funded scheme.\n\n> “This new service makes it easier for residents to recycle food waste, cut down on what goes in general waste bins, and play a direct role in reducing our environmental impact, by turning food waste into green energy.\n\n> “We appreciate residents’ cooperation as the new service begins and are confident that they will soon see the benefits of the new service.\"\n\nMore information on the new service can be found at:\nwww.cannockchasedc.gov.uk/foodwaste\n\n#### Enjoyed this story?\n\nAs a Community Interest Company, we reinvest every penny into Staffordshire journalism.
