Democracy metrics in steep backslide, US

According to the V-Dem Institute, democracy is in rapid decline globally, and the US is leading the decline. World-wide, only 18 countries are observed to be democratizing. The article does not give a comparable count of countries that are autocratizing, but they are 40% of the world's population.
