Why I’m Obsessed with Creating Content (And Why You Should Be Too)

The Real Reason I’m Addicted to Making Content (It’s Not What You Think)

Ever since I can remember in my adult life I have always made content. I started out as a teenager with my blog, and when I was about 21 I started doing podcasts and videos too!

While I'm using my journey and experience as an example for you. This isn't about MY obsession of Content per se. Rather it's about what happens when you fall in love with creating too.

When Content Creation Becomes an Obsession You Can’t Escape

I've worried sometimes over the years that maybe I made the wrong choice? To go all in with content, as opposed to partially focusing on school or career jobs. However I thought to myself even if I had "X" job, or this "degree", that I would still end up in some shape or form making content.

Not only that, but as an expert in any field you have to disseminate information in some form. As the internet evolves, the more and more it is clear that content is how that information gets spread.

Broadcast TV, Radio, and even Newspapers; They all have been pushed to the side by their digital/internet counterparts.

Knowing this then all pieces of content you make become the media that can attain attention from the world. If the post does well enough at least. Meaning the act of content creation has this cycle of dopamine/oxytocin you can get if the post garners a good amount of attention.

The Dark Side of My Content Obsession

There was a time at the end of 2017 where I burned out pretty hard, and it was quite in part due to me trying to do too much creating.

Since then I've faced similar situations where I almost burned out, like when I did an extreme amount of interviews in a short time span.

It also takes up a majority of my conscious thinking. I'll wake up thinking about content, I'll go to sleep thinking about content, and I'll plan my jobs around my content even. In fact last night I was thinking of the title of this post, how long I wanted it to be, and the sections you are reading now in a way.

This deep internal compass towards creating is a positive channel of my thoughts, and hopefully I can help people as well. However it also takes over all parts of my life, and I can't NOT think about doing it.
