Our last words since I left our village to follow the dreams that lead me to become the Willow Knight...\n\nFinishing up the solo playthrough of Mythic Bastionland, with steeds, flutes, a duel, snow and a small oracle. Following on from on from Part 3 Scenes.\n\nMythic Bastionland solo - intro | start | partway | finish | all season 3 | all rolling solo\n\n_Disclosure - I'm a DriveThru RPG affiliate_\n\n## Thoughts on Mythic Bastionland\n\nbastionland thoughts | solo tools | scenes | chars\n\nContinuing on from last time's notes.\n\nFirstly I did an interview with Chris McDowall, the creator of Mythic Bastionland.\n\nMythic Bastionland is now one of my favourite rpgs, taking pride of place beside Dolmenwood, Troika, WFRP 2e and Ironsworn: Starforged. Looking forward to running it for my regular RPG group.\n\nIt's also a work of art as an RPG, put together with terrific style, atmosphere and attention to detail. It's lightweight, with fast and deadly combat but unique characters thanks to the Knights. The combination of Myths, hex-crawling, making your own realm and the Seers makes for a unique setting / adventure / campaign.\n\nFor Solo the elements of style, simplicity and atmosphere mentioned above give it a solid base. Add to that a plethora of decent tables and the 72 sets of prompts (on Knight and Myth pages) and you have an excellent rpg for solo play. Then add in the strong procedures then there's not much more to ask for _(apart from a custom oracle)._\n\nIf I did solo again using Mythic Bastionland I'd use Tarot cards for my oracle, go for a longer game and draw a fancier Realm map. And try out the single hex exploration. It would also be fun to combine with Mythic GM Emulator for the _Mythic with Mythic_ naming opportunity!\n\nLast up is to mention Luck Roll with Brian, a solo play podcast focused on Mythic Bastionland. And the list on reddit of Resources for Mythic Bastionland.\n\nMythic Bastionland\n\n## Solo Tools - Juice Oracle\n\nbastionland thoughts | solo tools | scenes | chars\n\nBuilding on previous Solo Tools Notes.\n\nI didn't get to tarot cards, and ended up using Juice Oracle. It's a great little oracle although I just used the YN oracle and random tables, not looking at the notes much.\n\nBecause of the number of tables packed onto an A3 page, it's now my default oracle for travel! I might even try using the dice for Y/N questions when using my own Chaos Solo Engine oracle.\n\n## Tales of Knights of Willow, Quests and Reliquary\n\nbastionland thoughts | solo tools | scenes | chars\n\nContinuing from Previous Scenes.\n\nThe viewpoint character is Ser Litwitte.\n\n### Scene 10 - Aerie and Quest Renewed\n\n> I spent much of Harvest helping a new herald, the Meteor Knight, take command of Chider's Bastion. Soon they saw me as a threat to their authority and it was time to move on. Ser Floria took Dorza east and my former squire returned as Ser Dorza, the Reliquary Knight. They are tight-lipped about their sojourn. After a trip to the capital, we three knights are now on the trail of Kerensa, slayer of Chider.\n\nLost trail of Chider, and seek shelter from winter weather on Kindlemass. They reach a pristine tower among ancient glades, with pipe music coming from within _(Hex 12L)_.\n\n_(Event - Escalate Vow)_\n\nThey are welcomed to the Aerie of Grace by Ezta, a delicate woman in practical clothes. She compliments Ser Floria on the \"Bone Charge\" and introduces them to the pipers who reside here on a sacred duty.\n\nWhile celebrating the Feast of the Moon, the Company hears how Kerensa was once one of them, but stole the Flute of Grace from the Aerie. Ser Floria swears to return the flute, and Ezta reveals that Kerensa was recently seen in Five Fortunes Keep to the northwest.\n\nThe Company spend a pleasant week sheltering from the winter. A pleasant time of basic food and pipe music spent sparring and studying. Ser Litwitte practices the flute, first time since childhood.\n\n### Scene 11 - Through the Snows\n\n> Being knighted has changed Ser Dorza. She's calmer and constantly reading from a chest of books. She bears a sacred skull of a forgotten seer, whose spirit she can command to serve in times of need. She's also ambitious, probably under Ser Floria's influence, already speaking of taking a squire.\n\nLeaving the Aerie of Grace as the weather turns better, the Company follow directions north to get to Five Fortunes Keep, riding through the snow. Their first night out sees them in good spirits, unworried by a fresh fall of light snow overnight.\n\nContinuing northwest _(Hex 13N)_ through the trees, they encounter a huge stone archway, stars flickering in the shadows. They investigate, wandering who the temple might have been to. Spectral murmurings offer little insight and Ser Dorza's spirit from her Reliquary turns up nothing.\n\nHeading on they enter hills _(Hex 13-O),_ the woods thinning down. They come to a stone font with carvings of seers. Ser Dorza looks into the water and sees a Seer _(Event - favourable to a seer)._ They are chained and burning and looks to be a bog of some kind. Ser Dorza resolves to find them when they can.\n\n### Scene 12 - Night Sculptor\n\n> It was good to pick up the flute again. I haven't since I first dreamt of the Carved Seer. Tending herds of goats with only the music and a dog as company. I wander how my family are, if I have more nephews and nieces or if father has cooled down since our argument. Our last words since I left our village to follow the dreams that lead me to become the Willow Knight...\n\nSer Floria is on watch when she sees a lantern light. Going to investigate, she meets an old sculptor, working on a great stone statue with his likeness. When asked about Kerensa, the sculptor remembers meeting a her months ago, but knows nothing else.\n\nSer Floria leaves him be and tells the others of the nocturnal sculptor the next morning.\n\n### Scene 13 - Icy Danger\n\n> Five Fortunes Keep is said to sit in hills between two lakes. Mistbreath Lake is said to belong to the spirits of the dead, and skirted it in the last couple days. Now we come to the second lake, The Lake of Davith which feeds into the sea and is a route to Realms further afield.\n\nIt's cold and snow is falling, but no enough to stop them heading further into the hills _(Hex 13P)._ As they reach the lake, a freezing fog descends and an oblivious Ser Floria leads them over them onto the frozen lake _(Hex 13Q, encounter - Omen 2 of the Colossus)._\n\nThe world shakes as something shifts to the south. Ice cracks and Ser Dorza plunges down. Ser Floria helps with rope and saves Ser Dorza, but not her horse. Ser Litwitte finds them a safe path over shifting ice back to the shore.\n\nThey reach the lake shore a little after dark descends, Ser Dorza freezing and shivering. They camp down on the lake edge, getting little solace from the winter weather. A freezing mist descends as has the feeling of the eldritch about it _(Omen 2 of the Mist)._\n\nSer Dorza is alive but barely as they wait out the weather, losing strength. Early afternoon the snow abates and the mist remains. But they can make out the edge of a bridge and lights of a settlement a short distance away.\n\nThey've accidently found Five Fortunes Keep!\n\n_(And just noticed the rules for camping in Winter!)_\n\n### Scene 14 - Five Fortunes Keep\n\n> It's a terrible thing to lose your steed as a Knight. Richer ones have two, three or even a whole stable of them. We aren't rich and I hope Dorza can find a new one. Can you even be a proper knight without a horse to bear you in your service to the Realm?\n\nThere's a celebration going on as a new son has been born to the ruler of the holding. _(Leaf Knight, Ser Branca)_\n\nFolk are gathered at grove of trees, around a colourful garden free of snow. A familiar figure plays to a cheerful audience, dancing and drinking. Kerensa spots the Knights and slips into the crowd, with another taking up music on bagpipes.\n\nSer Dorza sends her ghost from the reliquary to find Kerensa, coming back to direct them to the main castle. Reporting to the castle, they are met by a steward and offered basic quarters in which to rest.\n\n_(Event - Resurrection)_\n\nHear that the new baby has been named Chider, after the ruler of the Realm's dead sister. Also told of Ser Demelza, the Gull Knight, who protects Kerensa and slew a foe in trial by combat a few weeks ago. Ser Floria demands that Ser Litwitte talks to Ser Branca about taking custody of Kerensa.\n\nThey receive an audience with Ser Branca, meeting Ser Demelza among small court. After congratulations on new baby, Ser Litwitte asks to take Kerensa into custody on request of Earl Wodwale, ruler of the Realm. Ser Demelza challenges this and in turn is issued a challenge by Ser Floria. Ser Branca stops all this, indicating strewn flowers around the courtyard and castle, indicating no fighting during the festival.\n\n### Scene 15 - A Knight Falls\n\n> There are things going on beyond our knowledge. Has Ser Branca named her son after our old friend at Kerensa's behest? Has she had some kind of vision? Does she seek favour with Earl Wodwale? I cannot fathom it and the others are of no help. Ser Floria has no interest in why and Ser Dorza is out everyday in the streets, watching over the festival.\n\nSer Dorza upholds the traditions of Five Fortunes Keep, serving the castle as a guardian, keeping the peace of the flowers and gaining the respect of Ser Branca.\n\nA few days later, Ser Floria and Ser Litwitte ride an hour outside of the Keep to meet Kerensa and Ser Demelza, having received an offer to resolve the challenge. At a stream is a tree tied with many knotted ribbons, under which minstrel and the Gull Knight await, the latter bearing hooked blade and kite shield.\n\nAfter a few words, Gull and Questing knight agree to a fight to the death or until one yields. They face each other on a small island in the river, home to a pair of trees and some rocks. Ser Floria starts in a frenzy, fighting the only way she knows how. A wounded Ser Demelza is picked up by a wind up into a tree, getting a brief respite.\n\nThe Questing Knight chops down a large branch, forcing Ser Demelza to jump down. But the Gull Knight knocks the blade of her tiring foe into the river and proceeds to slowly overpower her foe. Ser Floria, using dagger and shield, refuses to surrender and is finally cut down by Ser Demelza's hooked blade.\n\nThe Gull Knight slumps down, almost faltering under her own wounds. Ser Litwitte goes to tend her.\n\n### Scene 16 - A Seer Arises\n\n> I buried Ser Floria under the tree on the island, although her blade could not be found. Maybe another will pick it out from the water and become the Questing Knight. Kerensa revealed that her actions with Chider and coming here have been driven by a Seer, but gave no more details. I have no doubt it is true after Ser Demelza's victory. I must respect the outcome and will not pursue flute or custody of Kerensa further.\n\nAs Winter progresses into Spring, things are peaceful in Five Fortunes Keep. Ser Dorza continues serving the keep, gaining a hardy squire, Lumpe, in the process. Ser Litwitte also serves in his own way, refreshing the clothes and fashion of the wealthier in the Keep. Kerensa and her Gull Knight protector ready to go on a journey.\n\nThe Willow Knight is brought before Ser Branca and the baby Chider. To his surprise the baby speaks his first words, \"Colossus need sleep\", pointing to the southwest. Ser Branca acknowledges her child as the Born Seer, heir to the Seer who named her the Leaf Knight years ago.\n\nShe surprises Ser Litwitte by naming him Regent of the Keep, as she is taking Chider with her and joining Kerensa and Ser Delmelza on their journey. As normal with authority, Ser Litwitte defers to her wisdom...\n\nThe next day the Company see Gull Knight, Leaf Knight, Born Seer and minstrel board a boat for a journey to another realm. Before she goes, Kerensa hands Ser Litwitte the flute from the Aerie of Grace, to be returned to Ezta and the pipers.\n\n### Scene 17 - Colossal Problems\n\n> I am not ready for the responsibility such as Five Fortunes Keep, yet I cannot refuse it. My youth is slipping away and feel my time as the Willow Knight may not be a long one. The keep has been kept in good order and the steward helps me in the day to day decisions. I requested some armour but there seems to be nothing that fits me so far. Worryingly the Mist that came down when we entered the Lake of Davith still cloaks the Realm, hinting of more Myths stirring...\n\nThe Company, consisting of Ser Litwitte, Ser Dorza and her squire Lumpe get back in the saddle, trying to find the Colossus as directed by the Born Seer. Their local guide Ruskyn, is a drunken worshipper of stones. Ser Dorza now rides the former steed of Ser Floria, a sturdy charger.\n\nRiding through the persistent Mist that hangs over the Realm, their guide brings them to a house, crushed by stones _(Omen 3 of the Colossus)._ Ser Litwitte swears to find the one who destroyed the building. Their drunken guide finds them a leaky boat to cross the lake that blocks their path.\n\nFollowing Ser Dorza's advice, the company leave their guide behind and make their own way. After retracing their way through the hills, they meet another knight that evening. Ser Endra is The Hammer Knight and is sworn to hunt down the Colossus.\n\nJoining forces, the Company becomes four once more, ready to...\n\n**Seek the Myths. Honour the Seers. Protect the Realm.**\n\n_End._\n\n### Epilogue\n\n _In a misty marsh, a towering figure of stone roars as it sights a knight bearing a great hammer. Three other mounted figures join her, knights and squire preparing a perilous charge through muck and mud._\n\n_In a distant realm, a boat follows a flock of bats to a fire on a pebble beach. The Leaf Knight carries her Born Seer son down to the shore, watching as Gull Knight and her minstrel ward are greeted by a musician at his campfire. They are treated to a song about a great winged beast, growing for a feast..._\n\n## Character and Notes\n\nbastionland thoughts | solo tools | scenes | chars\n\nUpdated from previous Character Notes.\n\n### Ser Litwitte, Willow Knight\n\nmale knight-errant, Memories of Home (Castle, Fire), Knighted by The Carved Seer.
