I had almost included Mr. McCormick’s On Being a Generalist in my NLJ 6th Birthday Blogging Wisdom Series, but I ended up saving it for later use. But in celebration of Junited 2026, I share Mr. McCormick’s new article, Angel Reese, Habits, and Shooting Practice. He used internet critiques of Ms. Reese’s shooting form in practice as a prompt to discuss practicing good shooting form: “My purpose is not to write about Reese specifically, but to provide general observations.” There are more than enough interesting points in the article for me to recommend reading it instead of deferring to a summary. Stand-out sections include Mr. McCormick’s story of working with a young basketball player in high school and college to change her shooting for to enable a quicker release for college play, the origin of what “generations derogatorily termed … ‘throwing like a girl,'” and Stephen Curry being an example of how the absolute best shooters are capable of making shots with “any footwork.”\n\nYou can reply to this article from your own site by sending a Webmention.",
