Mr. Breen, a historian and writer, explained that he respectfully abstains from AI in his areas of expertise, but relies used AI tools for programming – specifically to create games which incorporate his expertise. As a writer (self-described, at least) who is not a programmer, I perceive some tension in Mr. Breen’s position. On one hand he respectfully abstains from AI in his own field, noting potential issues it may bring, while simultaneously diving into it in another field. To be sure, I follow the reasoning and appreciate Mr. Breen’s point that he would not be bring to life the games he is working on without AI. But I would suggest that this is an example of the distinction I argued for in part two of my reply: there is a material difference between using AI tools to edit/proofread a blog post or re-touch a photograph and creating a game through prompting.\n\n(Lest anyone doubt me, I put my non-existent non-programmer money where my mouth is by writing a visual novel in Ren’Py in 13 days by consulting the documentation instead of ChatGPT.)\n\nI submit for readers that I had not previously thought much about the “tension” I perceive (rightly or wrongly) in Mr. Breen’s post, so hat tip to Mr. Powitowski for sharing it and Mr. Breen for working through the issues in his own essay. I will have to think about it more for future article projects.",
