"textContent": "Political polarization goes deeper than ideological differences and public policy preferences. Polarization means that such differences and preferences have turned into bases for conflict and open disdain. This disdain is not limited to the political arena, though. It attaches itself to the people, the social thought, and the committed projects of communities that are associated, fairly or not, with certain camps. It is this version of political polarization that weighs heavily on many people-serving nonprofits. Early 2025 marked an unfortunate turning point where politics with little to do with their missions and objectives had a depressing effect on the resources available to them. Despite all this, a tremendous amount of courage and ingenuity has been displayed by nonprofits in the spirit of keeping their doors open and continuing to serve their communities. Still, there is much to learn in the interest of thriving through this storm and being well-prepared for the next storm. Some of these questions are: What are the fundamental causes of political polarization? Who loses the most from the fallout of polarization? Who gains the most from a polarized social climate? Who gains cover from a term like political polarization that signifies that two opposing camps are equally implicated and equally yoked to perpetuating division? What strategies can nonprofits enact to ensure they have the resources they need regardless of how polarized our social climate may be? Times are tough, but not as tough as we are when we think, strategize, and serve together.",
