For being so central to the macOS experience, there’s surprisingly little you can do to customize the menu bar, at least with the tools Apple provides. Some functionality has been added in Tahoe, but it still barely scratches the surface of what third-party apps are capable of.
Thaw is one of those apps. A fork of the open-source Ice, it maintains the original app’s functionality, adds new features, and improves compatibility with recent versions of macOS, something Ice was starting to have problems with due to the lack of frequent updates.
Hide non-essential menu bar items
We’ve seen a lot of apps that let you hide icons, and it’s a wonder Apple hasn’t added this functionality to macOS yet. Thaw’s implementation is complex yet intuitive, just like it was in Ice, but it’s more refined and works more reliably in my experience.
