A Fernando Tatis Jr. look-alike contest is coming to downtown San Diego this Memorial Day, giving Padres fans a chance to bring their best El Niño energy to The Tipsy Crow in the Gaslamp Quarter.

Sponsored by Templeton and Corralejo tequila, the 21-and-up contest will take place Monday, May 25, at The Tipsy Crow, located in the heart of downtown San Diego. Doors open at 11am, registration begins at noon, and the contest is scheduled for 2pm. The winner will receive a pair of tickets to a San Diego Padres game.

The event arrives during a complicated stretch for Tatis, one of the most recognizable athletes in San Diego sports. While the Padres superstar remains among the city’s most marketable and magnetic players, his 2026 season has been defined so far by frustration at the plate, with an uncharacteristic lack of power and no home runs through mid-May. Still, few figures in San Diego sports inspire the same level of instant recognition, from the signature dreadlocks and Padres cap to the swagger that helped make him the face of the franchise.

That visibility makes Tatis an ideal subject for a look-alike contest, a trend that has spread across cities in recent years with events centered on celebrities, athletes and pop-culture figures. For Padres fans, the challenge may come down to more than facial resemblance. Contestants may need the full package: the hair, the jersey, the sunglasses, the jewelry, the stance, the smile and the unmistakable Tatis confidence.

The Tipsy Crow, one of the Gaslamp Quarter’s long-running nightlife destinations, is leaning into the Padres theme as downtown continues to serve as the team’s unofficial pregame and postgame playground. With Petco Park only blocks away, bars throughout the Gaslamp have increasingly built promotions around Padres fandom, especially during home stands, rivalry series and holiday weekends.

The Tatis look-alike contest also gives fans a lighter way to rally around a player whose season has become one of the Padres’ biggest storylines. Whether Tatis breaks out soon or continues searching for his power stroke, his hold on San Diego’s baseball imagination remains undeniable.
