"textContent": "Celebrate Durham Graduating Seniors | Southpoint AccessSubmit a senior photo, their school, and plans for what comes next.Southpoint AccessWes Platt\n\nThis week, all Durham County Library staff got a directive calling for the removal of Pride Month displays and censorship of LGBTQ+ materials, according to Vice Chair Nida Allam of the Durham County Board of Commissioners.\n\nOn Friday, the library leadership appeared to reverse itself.\n\nThe board \"has not adopted this policy and does not support it, nor was this directive authorized by the county manager or attorney,\" Allam wrote in a Reddit post. She indicated in the post that the directive had come from Dana Conners, who has been director of the Durham County Library system since January.\n\n\"To any neighbor, library patron, or county employee affected by this: I see you, and I will stand by you this month and all year round,\" Allam wrote. \"The library is a safe space for every person in our county, a portal to new worlds and ideas. We will not tolerate attempts to silence queer voices in our library system or anywhere across the county.\"\n\nChair Mike Lee concurred: \"Our libraries are an open door where every person belongs and every story has a shelf. That door stays open, and your voices belong here.\"\n\nCommissioner Wendy Jacobs posted on Facebook that the unauthorized policy does not \"represent my deeply-held personal values.\"\n\n\"Durham County Government must work to repair this harm and ensure our libraries remain places that celebrate, reflect, and value the lives of everyone in our community,\" she said.\n\nOn Friday afternoon, a post on the Durham County Library Facebook page indicated that displays installed for Pride Month will be maintained.\n\nConners had not responded to an email request for comment as of this writing.\n\nHuck’s Heavenly Hangout FAQQuestions and answers that hopefully help illuminate how our new Southpoint Access pet obituaries section works!Southpoint AccessWes Platt\n\n## **Get Connected**\n\n * Send email to your neighborhood news guy: **wes.platt@southpointaccess.news**\n * Follow on Threads**.**\n * Connect on**** Instagram**!**\n * Join**** our Discord community\n * Join the Southpoint Access subreddit!\n\nSouthpoint Access Events CalendarFrom Durham County Library programs and family activities to special events at local businesses and key public meetings like the City Council, County Commission, and Planning Board, our calendar brings it all together in one easy-to-use resource.Southpoint AccessWes Platt\n\n## 🤝 **Support Our Sponsors**\n\nLocal journalism in **South Durham** survives thanks to the generous businesses and organizations that make this work possible. 🧭\n\nBy supporting these sponsors, you’re helping ** _Southpoint Access_** continue to deliver trusted, hyperlocal news and resources for our community - from school updates to neighborhood stories that keep South Durham connected.\n\n💛 **Shop local.
