It’s hard to describe the deep betrayal I felt cutting into my nerd soul while watching Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin unfold on a movie screen in the Summer of 1997.

After Michael Keaton’s gothic Caped Crusader in Tim Burton’s movies and then Schumacher’s first effort where Val Kilmer had one foot in darkness and another in day-glo camp, fans were bludgeoned by George Clooney’s jokey Dark Knight in a full-on, Vegas-style revue set in Gotham.
