Durham Public Schools wants $28 million more for the 2026-27 budget year, but Durham County Manager Claudia Hager’s only prepared to offer a $10.9-million increase, using a 2-cent hike in property taxes.
Superintendent Dr. Anthony Lewis isn’t complaining, though. In a statement issued this week after a joint meeting between the DPS Board of Education and the Board of County Commissioners, he described their “strong partnership” as a “model for collaboration.”
