Julianne Patterson, executive director of Preservation Durham, plans to step down after the nonprofit's current fiscal year, marking a leadership transition for one of the city's best-known preservation groups just ahead of its annual home tour in May.

The difficult decision comes "after a lot of thoughtful consideration," Patterson said in a statement.
