What I like with my eldest niece is she secretly listens to me. 😆
Two things.
First, there was a time when she went vegan. Her mom, my sister, can't convince her otherwise.
I asked her what her reason was and she said because animals can feel. So, I explained things to her logically.
a. It's fine to be a vegan, it is Biblical. Before the flood, humanity was vegan. After Judgement Day, we'll be vegan again. However, do you understand what it means to be a vegan? Vegan is a lifestyle. What's your reason to be a vegan? Animals can feel.
b. But science has proven that plants can feel too. You can search it for yourself. So, if your main reason is because animals can feel, then you should stop eating plants as well, they can feel too. According to studies, they can tell if they're about to be eaten by an animal.
c. Again, it's fine if you want to be a vegan, but your reasons must be solid and profound. It's a lifestyle. You dedicate yourself to it.
I only eat Kosher food. Not only because it is Biblically correct but also because it's a healthy lifestyle. Other people only eat Paleo food. Same thing, it is a lifestyle, they dedidated themselves to healthy living.
d. If healthy living is your secondary, or new primary, reason then vegan is not the only way. As I've mentioned, there is Kosher and Paleo. You live by it. You never compromise. The moment you compromise, that's the moment you will realize your foundation is weak.
Find what it is that you want to achieve, learn about it, dedicate yourself to it, and live by it. No compromises. No second thoughts. Do it for yourself, not for others. Not for the animals or plants.
Result: She stopped being vegan.
Second is reading books.
She and her sister are not book readers. I told her to reat books, and gave her a few she found interesting.
Result: She started reading.
But that's not all. I also advised that she reads classic novels because they're different. A year later, she read far more classic novels than I ever did. 🤣 It's her primary genre.
She doesn't admit it but she silently listens and reassess her focus, interests, and life. That's good because she's learning to look into herself and approach things logically and to what is beneficial for her.
There's balance in her life even though she's a Gen Alpha. She's not completely lost inside technologies. We rarely see each other but she always serprise me with changes.
She still doesn't know what she wants to be. For me that's good. Why? Because we can only actually know what we want to be once we're in our 20s. We enter college in late teens here in the Philippines, and trust me, that only create underemployed graduates. "Underemployed" meaning, their employment has nothing to do with their college course or major I'm one of the countless living examples of that. I took a college course that I want, B.S. Matdematics and Computer Science.
Once I'm in my 20s, that was when I realized that what I truly want was HRM or Hotel and Restaurant Management. I want to be in the service industry. I love providing services. Sharing.
But alas, my life took a wrong turn because we entered college in our teens when we still do not know what we truly want to be.
