  "textContent": "The deadly incident happened at the popular bar area in San Jose used to screen World Cup games (Picture: Alamy Live News/ZUMA Press)\n\nOne person was killed and another is fighting for their life after a gunman opened fire into a fan zone used to screen the World Cup games.\n\nThe attack happened at San Pedro Square in the San Francisco Bay Area, which has seen hundreds of fans flock there to watch the football.\n\nAt the time of the shooting on Sunday night, there were no game screenings at the popular San Jose spot.\n\nThe only World Cup match of the day yesterday had wrapped up at about 2pm local time (9pm GMT).\n\nOne victim was pronounced dead at the scene, the San Jose police department confirmed.\n\nThe force said in a statement: ‘Units are currently investigating a shooting in the area of N Market St and W Santa Clara St.\n\nThe San Pedro Square fan zone was full to the brim of World Cup fans on June 19 watching the USA v Australia game (Picture: Alamy Live News/ZUMA Press)\n\n‘One victim was pronounced deceased on scene. The second victim was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.\n\nThis incident is being investigated as a homicide. Several surrounding streets are closed in the area.
