"textContent": "Jess Turnbull only joined the force nine months ago\n\nA teenage police officer has died after being hit by a car while responding to another collision.\n\nPc Jess Turnbull, 19, joined Northumbria Police in September and was described as a ‘dedicated and committed officer’ by her chief constable.\n\nShe was called to a collision on the A189 near Cramblington, Northumberland, at around 11.10pm on Monday.\n\nPc Turnball was out of her marked police car at the scene when she was struck by a black Mercedes CLC that was unconnected to the original incident.\n\nThe new police officer died in hospital on Wednesday surrounded by her loved ones, the force said.\n\n## Sign up for all of the latest stories\n\nStart your day informed with Metro's **News Updates** newsletter or get **Breaking News** alerts the moment it happens.\n\nA 73-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.\n\nHe was released after being taken to hospital but has been re-arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
