"textContent": "Michael Carrick is now in charge permanently at Manchester United (Picture: Getty)\n\nManchester United have been tipped to make an audacious move for Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski in the summer transfer window.\n\nUnited will be keen to build on their positive end to the season, having secured a third-place Premier League finish under the stewardship of Michael Carrick.\n\nThe Red Devils already have an agreement in place for Atalanta midfielder Ederson, with the Brazilian seen as a potential replacement for the departing Casemiro.\n\nElsewhere, United are still keen to add another central midfielder, while the club are also seeking improvements in forward areas.\n\n## All the World Cup action\n\nGet everything you need to know about the World Cup – England updates, the games to watch and stories you missed – in five minutes, at 1pm, every day. Sign up here.\n\nWhile Bryan Mbeumo did play at centre forward throughout the season, Rasmus Hojlund’s permanent departure to Napoli means Benjamin Sesko is the only senior out-and-out striker at the club.\n\nSesko did register 11 league goals in his first season at Old Trafford, but United will look to add another, more experienced striker to support the 23-year-old.\n\nAnd former Red Devils striker Giuseppe Rossi believes United should turn their focus towards Lewandowski, who announced his departure from Barcelona at the end of the season.\n\nRobert Lewandowski will leave Barcelona this summer (Picture: Getty)\n\nThe Polish international scored 14 league goals in Spain last season to help fire Hansi Flick’s side to another La Liga title, and Rossi is confident that the 37-year-old still has plenty to offer.\n\n‘Robert Lewandowski to Man Utd? Yeah, why not?’ the Italian told Ozoon.\n\n‘Of course, Lewandowski would be an incredible asset for the young players, providing his experience and big-game knowledge.\n\nBenjamin Sesko scored 11 league goals in his first season at Old Trafford (Picture: Getty)\n\n‘With Benjamin Sesko being a young, growing player, having someone like Lewandowski on the team would only benefit him. It’s a no-brainer. He has a huge resume and on a short-term deal, it’s a win-win.’\n\nHowever, while a move for Lewandowski may appeal, reports from the BBC suggest that the Pole’s wage demands would likely be too steep for United.\n\nElsewhere, though, the Red Devils do appear set to welcome one player back from Barcelona after the Catalan giants did not take up the offer to sign Marcus Rashford permanently for £26million.\n\nBarca have instead signed Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United, although they may still return to the negotiating table to try and sign Rashford later in the window.\n\nSpeaking in April, Carrick left the door open for Rashford’s potential return to United, saying: ‘There’s decisions to be made on certain things, and obviously Marcus is in that situation,’ said Carrick.\n\n‘But at this point in time, nothing’s been decided. It will be, because it has to be at a certain point, but at this stage, there’s nothing to say.’\n\n**For more stories like this, check our sport page**.\n\n**Follow Metro Sport for the latest news on**Facebook,** Twitter and Instagram**.\n\nComment now Comments \nAdd Metro as a Preferred Source on Google\nAdd as preferred source\n",
