  "textContent": "A man has been shot with crossbow at University of Surrey accommodation in a major police incident that has seen the arrest of a former student. (Picture: BPM MEDIA)\n\nA member of staff has been ‘seriously injured’ after being shot on a university campus.\n\nThe University of Surrey said a member of its campus safety team was the victim hit at around 10am.\n\nSurrey Police said officers were called to reports of a man in his 50s being shot at Manor Park Student Village, Guildford on Thursday morning.\n\nA former student has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following the shooting.\n\nThe victim was taken to hospital with police saying ‘significant emergency services presence’ remained at the scene.\n\nCh Supt Jon Groenen said the suspect was detained at the scene shortly after the incident.\n\n‘An investigation is now under way to establish the circumstances of the assault,’ he added.\n\n‘I appreciate that this incident will cause concern amongst our local communities.\n\n‘We are working closely with the university as our investigation progresses.’\n\nThe victim’s next of kin had been informed and were being supported by officers, said Surrey Police.\n\nThe force urged witnesses or anyone with information that could help their investigation to come forward.\n\nThe University of Surrey said it was giving police its ‘full support’ and that the campus was open and operational.\n\n**_This is a breaking news story… More to follow…_**\n\nComment now Comments \nAdd Metro as a Preferred Source on Google\nAdd as preferred source\n",
