"textContent": "Mikel Arteta has led Arsenal to the Premier League title (Picture: Getty Images)\n\nArsenal are Premier League champions for the first time in 22 years after Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw at Bournemouth on Tuesday night.\n\nThe Gunners put the pressure on Manchester City with their win over Burnley on Monday night, which put them five points clear at the top of the table, with one game to play.\n\nManchester City still had two games to go, but clearly had to win their penultimate match to keep the title race alive.\n\nPep Guardiola’s side could not manage that as they were drew at the Vitality Stadium, with Junior Kroupi scoring for the home team in the first half and Erling Haaland only equalising in stoppage time.\n\n## Love football?\n\nOur seven-day guide to the World Cup is live. 48 teams, 104 games, 1104 players – we've got everything you need to know. Sign up now.\n\nThat results leaves them four points behind the Gunners ahead of Sunday’s final day of the Premier League season.\n\nArsenal will now go to Crystal Palace in celebratory mood, ahead of their Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain on May 30.\n\nManchester City host Aston Villa on Sunday and there will be nothing on the line, in what is expected to be Guardiola’s final game in charge of the club.\n\n> Mikel Arteta’s first words after Arsenal are crowned Premier League champions\n\nPep Guardiola’s men could not keep the title race alive at Bournemouth (Picture: Getty Images)\n\nIt has hardly been a disastrous campaign for City, having won the FA Cup and League Cup, but falling short in the two biggest competitions they have contested.\n\nArsenal are champions of England again for the first time since their Invincibles season in 2003/04 when they became the only Premier League side to go a whole campaign unbeaten.\n\nIt would have been hard to believe when Arsene Wenger lifted the trophy without losing a match that they would have to wait this long to be champions again.\n\nIt has been 22 years since an Arsenal team won the Premier League (Picture: Getty Images)\n\nArteta adds a second major title to his CV as Arsenal boss and his first since the FA Cup win in 2020.\n\nWenger won all three of Arsenal’s previous Premier League titles, so Arteta becomes just the second manager to conquer the Premier League with the Gunners.\n\nAsked if he would be a fan of Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth on Tuesday night, Arteta said: ‘The biggest ever!\n\n> The Arsenal. Your Premier League champions. pic.twitter.com/gNnfzesrhP\n>\n> — Arsenal (@Arsenal) May 19, 2026\n\n‘For Andoni, and all the players and all the supporters of Bournemouth, I think we are all [Bournemouth fans] because we know what it means if they get a result.’\n\nAs for Bournemouth, they remain sixth and have guaranteed European football next season in a stunning final campaign in charge for Iraola.\n\nThe Spaniard is leaving after Sunday’s final game of the season, but will depart with the Cherries at least in the Europa League, while there is an outside chance of Champions League qualification.\n\nIraola said: ‘At the beginning of the season you didn’t imagine it. It has been so nice and we have a chance to fight for the Champions League in the last game and we really deserve this, especially for the game we played so well. We have not won the game but it does not matter.\n\n‘I’ve enjoyed it so much, how we played and the personality we showed. We had great chances to score the second one and we wanted to win the game but I’ve enjoyed it. Today has been a good reflection of the club. I’m very happy for the club, the players, the supporters and the staff. It’s the best way to finish with something you can touch I can’t ask for anything more.’\n\nComment now Comments \nAdd Metro as a Preferred Source on Google\nAdd as preferred source\n",
