  "textContent": "A police officer was stabbed in Manchester city centre\n(Credits: MEN MEDIA)\n\nA police officer has been taken to hospital after being stabbed in Manchester.\n\nEmergency services are on the scene following reports of a stabbing close to Oxford Road, near Manchester city centre.\n\nThere is a large police scene outside Denmark Road Sports Centre, behind the Whitworth Art Gallery.\n\nFootage of the aftermath of the arrest shows police officers rushing to apprehend a suspect. He is pinned to the floor close to the Denmark Road Sports Centre entrance.\n\nEyewitness Simon Bailey said: ‘The injured officer was pulled away and got treated.\n\n##  Sign up for all of the latest stories\n\nStart your day informed with Metro's **News Updates** newsletter or get **Breaking News** alerts the moment it happens.\n\n‘There were about 30 officers there and they cordoned off the road.\n\n‘I was walking home from work and I heard sirens and police cars going around the corner.\n\n‘When I got there behind them, I saw loads of officers on top of a young guy.\n\n‘One of the officers was led away by colleagues and he had a large cut to his left cheek and was bleeding. It looked like he had been slashed with a knife.’\n\nDenmark Road has been cordoned off by officers from Greater Manchester Police, as has nearby Cecil Street.\n\nThe stabbing took place close to a sports centre in Oxford Road, a student area of Manchester (Picture: MEN)\n\nImages from the area show at least eight police cars in attendance close to the entrance of the sports complex.\n\nAn eyewitness has told the Manchester Evening News a police officer was the victim of an attack.\n\nGreater Manchester Police (GMP) has since confirmed a man has been arrested. He remains in custody for questioning.\n\nThe officer’s injuries are non-life threatening, and they will attend hospital for treatment.\n\nAn extensive cordon remains in place ourside Denmark Road Sports Centre.\n\nA spokesman for GMP said: ‘At around 4.55pm we were called to reports of a man brandishing a knife on Demark Road in Manchester.\n\n‘Police attended the scene an officer was assaulted.
