Donald Trump has claimed that the King is on the same page with him regarding Iran and nuclear weapons.

King Charles and Queen Camilla’s US state visit has been packed with eyebrow-raising moments served by Trump.

The visit started with a tug of war handshake on the steps of the White House, followed by a visit through the grounds led by Trump and the First Lady, Melania.

After the King’s speech in front of the US Congress, which hinted at the strained US-UK relationship, the day culminated at the state dinner, where Charles and Trump delivered full speeches.

Trump pointed to the special bond between the UK and US, referring to the Second World War and the Korean war, before turning to the war with Iran he started.

The US president said: ‘We are doing a little bit of Middle East work right now, you might know. And we are doing very well.

‘We have militarily defeated that particular opponent.

‘And we’re never going to let that opponent ever – Charles agrees with me, even more than I do – we’re never going to let that opponent have a nuclear weapon.

‘They know it, and they know that very powerfully.’

This was followed by applause in the ballroom before Trump continued: ‘Our countries have stood together, defiant and triumphant against the forces of communism, fascism and tyranny.’

Earlier, the King was visibly caught off guard when Trump said his mother ‘had a crush’ on Charles as a boy.

Now the state visit is halfway through, and the royals will leave Washington DC for New York today.

The King and Queen will also visit Bermuda over the weekend.
