"textContent": "Nancy Paxton (right) is on trial at the Old Bailey charged with the murder of her sister Jennifer Abbott\n\n**A woman cut her own sister’s throat and snatched her diamond-encrusted gold Rolex watch, the Old Bailey has heard.**\n\nNancy Pexton, 69, is accused of murdering her film director sibling, Jennifer Abbott, known professionally as Sarah Steinberg, at her flat in Camden, north London, on June 10 last year.\n\nShe is said to have locked Ms Abbott’s Corgi dog, Prince, in the bathroom where he survived without food for three days.\n\nMs Abbott’s body was found on her living room floor with a wound to her neck and gaffer tape over her mouth when a neighbour worried he could no longer hear Prince barking forced the door.\n\nShe was not wearing her Rolex watch which she was ‘greatly attached to’ and never usually took off, jurors were told.\n\nPexton, of no fixed address, is on trial accused of murdering Ms Abbott.\n\nOpening the case on Thursday, prosecutor Bill Boyce KC said there was no evidence that Ms Abbott was alive after Pexton visited her on June 10.\n\nMs Abbott was last seen on footage from a doorbell camera as she returned to her block after walking her dog at 7.36am that day.\n\nThe sisters had spoken by phone at 11.36am with Pexton travelling by bus to her flat at 12.45pm and staying for an hour.\n\nAfter allegedly killing her 69-year-old sister, Pexton called her GP and said she had taken an overdose, Mr Boyce said.\n\nShe was taken to hospital by ambulance where she stayed before her arrest on June 18, jurors were told.\n\nJennifer Abbott (left) is pictured with her sister Nancy Pexton (right) in a holiday snap\n\nMr Boyce said: ‘She said she could not remember what had happened in the previous 90 minutes, which was the period we say she was undoubtedly in her sister’s flat, the period we say she murdered her sister.’\n\n## Latest London news\n\n * Bag thief didn't realise he took £2,000,000 Faberge egg and swapped it for drugs\n * We find out how children got hold of knives in London - and it's not from the dark web\n * Warning over 'dodgy' online e-bike batteries after fires surge\n\n\n\n_**To get the latest news from the capital, visit Metro's** London news hub._\n\nThe court heard that Ms Abbott’s body was found at her Mornington Place flat on the afternoon of June 13.\n\nMs Abbott’s niece, Mai Pexton, had gone to the property and banged on the door, screaming for her ‘auntie’.\n\nA neighbour decided to break down the door because he could not hear Ms Abbott’s corgi dog Prince barking, which he found unusual, the court heard.\n\nHe called emergency services after discovering Ms Abbott’s partially naked and decomposing body on the floor.\n\nShe had a large, gaping ‘slash-type’ wound across her neck and gaffer tape across her mouth, jurors heard.\n\nMs Abbott’s corgi had been locked in the bathroom and was freed by firefighters, Mr Boyce said.\n\nThe prosecutor told jurors: ‘It was in desperate need of a lavatory but was fed and watered and given to Mai to take away in good health.’\n\nCourt artist drawing of Nancy Pexton, 69, appearing at Highbury Magistrates’ Court earlier in the case (Picture: Elizabeth Cook/PA)\n\nHe told the court Ms Abbott usually wore her Cartier bracelet and gold diamond encrusted Rolex watch which was of ‘real sentimental value’.\n\nThe watch that Ms Abbott ‘never took off’ and was ‘greatly attached’ to was later discovered when police searched Pexton’s bag, Mr Boyce said.\n\nPexton allegedly responded: ‘Oh yes, that’s my sister’s. She asked me to look after it.’\n\nA post-mortem examination found Ms Abbott had sustained a number of stab and slash wounds and a single defensive wound to the right hand.\n\nPexton, who was nine months younger than the victim and turns 70 on Friday, was effectively homeless and had been staying near Baker Street.\n\nMr Boyce said the central issue in the case was whether Pexton, who has two adult daughters, was responsible for killing her sister.\n\nShe has denied murder and the Old Bailey trial continues.\n\n******Get in touch with our news team by emailing us atwebnews@metro.co.uk.******\n\n**For more stories like this,** check our news page.\n\n\nAdd Metro as a Preferred Source on Google\nAdd as preferred source\n",
