"textContent": "Steven Gerrard has criticised Ruben Amorim’s handling of Kobbie Mainoo at Manchester United (TNT Sports)\n\nSteven Gerrard has described Ruben Amorim’s treatment of Kobbie Mainoo at Manchester United as ‘out of order’.\n\nMainoo had been considering a move away from United in the January transfer window after struggling to secure a regular role in the team under Amorim.\n\nBefore Amorim’s sacking in January, Mainoo had not started a Premier League game this season and his only full 90 minutes came against Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup in August.\n\nUnder Michael Carrick, Mainoo has started all 10 of United’s matches and delivered impressive performances in wins over Manchester City, Tottenham and Aston Villa.\n\nGerrard believes Mainoo now ‘walks into the England squad’ and said he ‘felt sorry’ for the 20-year-old’s situation under Amorim.\n\nWhen asked if he believes that Mainoo will be in England’s squad for this summer’s World Cup, Gerrard told TNT Sports: ‘Yes, because I think he’s a fantastic player. He done well in the last tournament [Euro 2024].\n\nKobbie Mainoo ‘walks into England’s squad’, says Steven Gerrard (Getty)\n\n## Your football fix\n\n**Metro** 's Head of Sport James Goldman delivers punchy analysis, transfer talk and his take on the week's biggest stories direct to your inbox every week.\n\nSign up here, it's an open goal.\n\n‘Felt really sorry for him in terms of the kid’s career under Amorim. I think it was out of order that he never got any opportunity, especially with Man United being so inconsistent.\n\n‘But not surprised that Michael Carrick [started to play him]. I think that was one of the straight wins if you walk into a job, if you like. Get Kobbie Mainoo back in, get him smiling, give him game time and minutes, and get him fit and up to the speed where we all know he can play.\n\n‘He’s now at a level where he walks in the England squad, never mind Amorim not playing him.\n\n‘He walks into the England squad if he’s playing regularly for Man United.’\n\n**For more stories like this, check our sport page**.\n\n**Follow Metro Sport for the latest news on**Facebook,** Twitter and Instagram**.\n\nComment now Comments \nAdd Metro as a Preferred Source on Google\nAdd as preferred source\n",
